How do we select our girls?

  • Middle school girls are recommended by their 7th grade science, math, or computer teachers and compete for sponsorships.  Branch Committee members are responsible for selecting the girls from each of the schools.  Our Beach Cities branch has been selecting girls from 3 middle schools (Bud Carson, Hawthorne MS & Prairie Vista) in Hawthorne School District, two middle schools (Addams and Rogers) in Lawndale School District, and Culver City MS in CCUSD.  Selections are based on an application, an essay and an interview that the girls complete.

What do the girls do during camp?

  • At each camp, girls receive an in-depth, week-long course focused on a STEM subject taught by instructors who are experienced middle and high school teachers and professional women in STEM related careers.

How can you get involved with camp?

  • Branch members have participated as dorm moms, presenters on professional panels and/or instructors. The girls interact with women who serve as role models, introducing them to a wide range of STEM academic and career possibilities through workshops, lab activities and field trips.

What happens after camp?
